Learn more about Alexa’s full suite of offerings, here.

Alexa is an acupuncturist, herbalist, bodyworker, energy healer, and founder of The Origin Center. Her greatest passion is helping you feel better in your body and your life. Her transformational approach to care is rooted in the premise that you are already in possession of health and self you seek — you just need some help uncovering it.

Alexa was raised in a family that understood good health was not simply a matter of good genes or good luck — good health could be sought and cultivated. Her grandmother resolved debilitating allergies through a commitment to dietary changes in the era of TV dinners. Her mother followed suit, emphasizing nutrition at home, and opting for homeopathy and rest to (successfully!) manage the various colds, flus, bumps and bruises endemic to childhood. It was only natural, then, that when weighing options to rein in her own escalating anxiety in her early 20s, Alexa would first seek out non-pharmacological approaches. This is how she found Chinese medicine. When her anxiety improved AND her menstrual cycle changed — dramatically, unexpectedly, and totally for the better — she was sold.

Alexa has been in clinical practice since 2003.

Her gift is in helping people connect to their body’s innate wisdom, strength, and healing capacity.

Her tools include acupuncture, clinical herbal medicine, personalized dietary and lifestyle recommendations, bodywork, energy work, energy exercises, and targeted meditations — an accumulation of almost 20 years of on-going clinical practice, study, and exploration.

Her superpower is sharing it all with levity, laughter, and a fierce commitment to you and your best self.

ALEXA’S CV HIGHLIGHTS

  • Alexa started her undergraduate career at Stanford University and finished it at (the very non-traditional) Hampshire College. The juxtaposition of these two institutions reflects one of the primary themes of her life: academic rigor in the service of unconventional pursuits.

  • She moved to Texas after college and enrolled in massage therapy training “just for fun.” She put her hands on people and immediately knew two things for certain:

    1) some version of this was what she was meant to do with her life; and
    2) she wanted more

  • Four years later, Alexa received her master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAcOM) from AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine in Austin, TX—the highest level of training available in the field at the time. She is nationally board certified, a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), and is licensed to practice acupuncture and prescribe custom-made Chinese herbal medicine in Maine, New York, and Texas.

  • Alexa is a seeker, and she is deeply committed to on-going study and growth, both personally and professionally. Highlights of her post-graduate education include:

In 2014 and again in 2016 Alexa invested in two, two-year long mentorship trainings with Sharon Weizenbaum, a master Chinese herbalist and recognized leader in the field of Chinese medicine women’s health, obstetrics, and gynecology.

In 2012 (London) and again in 2018 (New York City) Alexa invested in a year-long course of specialized study with recognized leader in Chinese medicine dermatology, Mazin Al-Khafaji. Successful completion of Al-Khafaji’s rigorous examination earned her place as a recommended provider in the International TCM Dermatology Association.

When I write my magical-realist memoir, I will not need to exaggerate my experience in order to demonstrate that Alexa Gilmore is a sorceress. I am a scientifically minded, over-analytical, skeptic. I did not expect ANY of this to work, but the effects of Alexa’s treatments are indisputable: I feel like I traded in my previous body for a much better model.

About Us

Our Philosophy

We are dedicated to providing exceptional care with meaningful results.

We are not here to fix or “cure” you — nobody and nothing is capable of this. Our role is to support your body’s own self-healing abilities, to provide your body with the ingredients it needs to heal, repair, and take care of itself most optimally, and to be a trusted guide for you along the way.

We promise these things on the journey:

A Holistic Approach

The body, mind, and spirit are not separate. Psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual factors are as much a part of the disease process as any physical considerations. We work with our patients and devise personalized treatment plans, accordingly.

Accountability and Partnership

We are always honest and straightforward about what we are and aren’t able to treat, and the amount and types of treatment we expect you’ll need. We are also always honest and straightforward about the contributing (or detracting) effects of your personal diet and lifestyle choices, and how those choices may impact your healing journey. This is a partnership. We meet you where you’re at, and we expect active participation from both parties.

A Clear Plan

We pride ourselves on the clarity and purpose of our treatment plans. You will always know what we’re doing and why, as well as the changes we’re looking for and when we expect to see them. If you don’t, please ask.

Individualized Care

You are not your symptoms, nor are you your diagnosis. We don’t treat either — we treat YOU. YOU are a unique individual, and regardless of how many others may have had the same or similar diagnosis, your pattern of imbalance is unique to you and calls for a unique response. One of the most powerful things about Chinese medicine is its ability to identify these sorts of nuances, and treat accordingly. No two migraines, PCOS cases, fertility issues, or peri-menopausal profiles are the same.

Collaboration

We recognize the importance of collaborative care in managing many complex issues, and we’re always happy to work with our patients’ other providers to streamline and coordinate that care as much as possible. We support you in making the best health care choices for yourself at any moment in time—and only you can know what those are.

Depth of Care

Our intention is to address your symptoms from their root cause as much as possible. It is this focus on correction at the level of the root — rather than merely managing symptoms at the level of the “branch” — that ultimately enables lasting changes in your health profile.

Alexa saved me and helped me heal my broken heart.... Her treatment healed my skin, but most importantly Alexa has a gift of getting to the heart of who and what she is treating. She truly is a healer, and an exceptional role model for me and those of us who are hoping for a more honest, healthy way of life.
